Gmunden is part of the Alpine foreland, is located at the northern bank of lake Traunsee and surrounded by numerous mountains. This maritim city is 13.000 inhabitants small and, among other things, famous for the herein manufactured Gmundner ceramic as well as the castle "Seeschloss Ort". The latter was one of the sites of the TV-serial "Schlosshotel Orth".

 

In sporting terms f.i. is the yearly Traunsee-week worth to mention, Austrias biggest sailing-event and moreover Europs biggest inland lake event. But also thanks to many cultural events Gmunden made a name, representativ are the Salzkammergut festival weeks as well as the international pottery marked mentioned. A completely different speciality is Gmundens steepest pride: Gmunden is namely not just the smallest Austrian town where a tram runs on a daily basis, but it is concidered worldwide as one of the steepest with exclusively adhesion-operation.
